The Sentinel Seal is both a security lock and a uniquely numbered seal all in one device. The Sentinel is easily affixed to roll up or swing doors, cages, ULD’s and basically any enclosure that requires seal integrity The device replaces both conventional uniquely numbered cable, plastic or bolt seals and even electronic security locks. The device is made of Trovidur that is a low flammability PVC which meets CAA and EASA regulations for uses associated with aircraft. The flap over cover is made of corrosion resistant powder coated Cromwell Steel and secures the thumb screw for non-keyed units and covers the keyway on keyed units. This flap insures that the device cannot be accidently opened. The Sentinel Seal meets all TSA requirements for chain of custody sealing. It is totally waterproof and is ruggedly designed to work outside in all weather conditions.
The battery is permanently imbedded into the device and it is designed to last approximately 7-10 years or the equivalent of 500,000 openings and closings. It is not possible to replace the battery at that time. The 3/16th inch thick steel cable can effectively secures roll up door hooks and hasps or the keeper rods on swing door trailers and trucks. The random number generated each time the device is opened or closed is truly random and the seal itself is clone proof. The electronic components cannot be manipulated by a magnet attack and will alert the owner of such an attack by showing the word “alert” if attempts are made at electronically manipulating the device. The digital number area of the Sentinel Seal is back lit when the light button is depressed and will illuminate for 5 seconds. When the device is opened the word “opened” will appear in the screen before a new random seal number is generated upon closure.
The mechanism works by generating a random number each time the seal is opened and re-locked and all information on date, time and number are retained in the mechanism and can be down loaded by cell phone or PDA. The software comes with the unit and can be downloaded from the internet. The device holds 100 scrolling events. The Sentinel Seal can be made into a barrier device by choosing the lockable design. Opening it releases the standard 20 inch wire cable. Cables can be made in any desired length but must be ordered with the unit as these are manufactured in the UK. The cable is then threaded through a normal hasp or hook configuration or around the keep bars and replaced into the receiver chamber to generate a new number. To re-close it you simply re-insert the cable end into the receiver and press it closed. Each time the device is opened a new digital number is reflected in the durable, thick plastic window.
The 5 digit number is easily read with each actuation. The protocol needed to use this mechanism is merely annotating the last number generated on a manifest or document for verification at the next checkpoint. By examining the random number, surreptitious entry can easily be detected in the normal chain of custody.
The competitive price of this device offers the user tremendous savings over the use of conventional seals, where seals would be the appropriate security device for the application.
