The Sentinel Seal is a fixed security device that replaces both conventional seals and electronic security locks on trailer doors, straight trucks, airline containers, loading dock doors, gates, security cages or in any area where access control is needed without physical barrier protection.
The Sentinel Seal is made of stainless steel and brass and is lightweight yet rugged and designed for out of doors use. It is battery operated and down loadable to allow for any chain of custody audit. It is waterproof and constructed to handle the elements and the abuse of a typical transportation environment. The battery is designed to last approximately 5 years and is replaceable at that time. The 3/16th inch steel cable can effectively secure roll up or swing doors, drums, rail or hopper cars, bay doors or most any hasp configuration on any enclosure.
Both permanent and removable mounting brackets are available (one permanent bracket is supplied) and a weather resistant cover are provided with the product. It is typically mounted with 4 screws to the back of a truck, roll up or swing out door. Mounting is quick and simple. The Sentinel Seal has an expected useful life before any repairs are needed of well over 500,000 actuations.
The mechanism works by generating a random number each time the seal is opened and re-locked and all information on date, time and number are retain in the mechanism and can be down loaded by cell phone or pda. The Sentinel Seal can be made into a barrier device with the use of a simple locking kit that is then retrofitted into the mechanism however in most common use situations, this device is a tamper evident seal rather than a lock. The plunger only needs to be popped out to release the locking mechanism. Opening it releases the standard 20 inch wire cable. Cables can be made in any desired length. The cable is then threaded through a normal hasp or hook configuration or around the keep bars and replaced into the receiver chamber to generate a new number. To re-close it you simply re-insert the cable end into the receiver and press it closed. Each time the device is opened a new number is reflected in the durable, thick plastic window.
The 5 digit number is easily read with each actuation. The protocol needed to use this mechanism is merely annotating the last number generated on a manifest or document for verification at the next checkpoint. By examining the random number, surreptitious entry can easily be detected in the normal chain of custody.
The competitive price of this device offers the user tremendous savings over the use of conventional seals, where seals would be the appropriate security device for the application. It is far superior to any electrical system for battery life and durability and it is accepted in most EC countries for use on airport vehicles.
